Weeroona College is one of four new Year 7-10 replacement schools being constructed during the next three years as part of the regeneration of schools in the Bendigo region. Planning for this College has been undertaken in conjunction with Fielding Nair International who have introduced new concepts in the planning of Victorian schools.

Y2 has worked closely with the existing school community [Weeroona College Bendigo] to further develop the FNI concepts and modify them as needed to suit the particular needs expressed by students and staff. Conceptually there has been little change, but from a practical viewpoint the final outcome aligns itself to the Victorian schools Blueprint for Education and Early Childhood Development

The development of planning for each of the specialist areas has required extensive consultation with staff and there have been some design changes and compromises as a result. Pedagogical concerns have been paramount and the proposal introduces the idea of Small Learning Communities, with each linked to an area of specialisation [Performance, Health and Fitness, Think & Inquire, and Design, Creativity and Technology].

Each SLC contains 110-115 students, with two such facilities comprising a Neighbourhood, and each sharing a Da Vinci Studio [Art and Science] and Einstein Studio [lobby/break out area]. Stage one was opened in March 2010.
