MULTIPURPOSE BUILDING

A new building providing space for Art, Music, assembly and general class rooms. An existing two storey building from the 1970™s is retained and incorporated into the new building.

The building facilitates the current pedagogical shift toward student focused learning by incorporating alternative learning environments. Spaces provided include genral learning areas, cave spaces for small groups, a flexible art studio and a multipurpose space.

The building foyer faces onto outdoor spaces and provides a gallery space by for student work. The flexibility of the art studio is maximised by connecting with the multipurpose space. The multipurpose can be used out of hours and has access to a small kitchen space in the art studio.

Pre-cast concrete blades provide a protected view to play areas while the carpark facade is composed with a green ribbon containing small windows. The ribbon is carried across the existing building by a perforated metal screen providing solar protection. Building Systems used to reduce energy consumption include thermal chimneys, passive solar control and thermal mass.
